Speech and Language Therapy Services

When we first meet with you, the WMSLT therapists will be keen to understand your current context, what you already have in place to support speech, language and communication and your desired outcomes. The WMSLT service will then support you in developing an action plan that is bespoke to your needs as a school, with the ultimate goal of improving outcomes for your children. We aim to promote work at a whole-school level to ensure that all staff are skilled in working with the pupil’s needs. This leads to greater benefit to all students.

Depending on needs and budget, schools can choose to purchase a regular speech and language therapy service (e.g. weekly input), or a less regular service (e.g. half termly). We offer advisory / consultative support, with staff training as required to implement recommendations and interventions.

Primary Schools

1.9 million children are behind with their talking and understanding of words. That’s 1 in 5 children – which is the highest number ever recorded (Speech and Language UK, 2023).

Secondary Schools

There are strong links between SLCN and SEMH. Up to 81% of children with emotional and behavioural challenges have communication disorders. These difficulties often go unrecognised (Hollo et al, 2014).

Specialist Settings

SLCN continues to be the most prevalent special educational need (DfE, 2024). Our specialist team support your staff in enabling a total communication approach, so our students reach their full potential.

We would love to hear from you.
